How to resolve quickbooks error -6000, -83


Have you ever suffered with QuickBooks error message: 'quickbooks error -6000, -83' when you are trying to open your company file. Some common reasons behind this error: 


When you are trying to convert company file from older version: If the error persists due to older version of QuickBooks so you should Update the latest release of the product.


Insufficient Folder permissions:  If the error occurs due to insufficient permission then you should check that the permissions are correctly setup or not. Follow these steps to check:



Corrupted your company file: When you are opening the company file & the error get occurs it means your company files get damage. In this case, you should verify your company file after that rebuild your file. If you are not able to open your company files then you should copy file to another location. After that open the folder that have company file. Copy the file & paste into empty area on your Windows desktop. After that open QuickBooks and then open the company file If still the file displays the error, it means the file get severely damage. In this case, you should use third party QuickBooks Repair tools. The tools are designed to repair corrupt .qbw files. 


More than one computer trying to host the company files: Use following steps to turn off hosting on all workstations accessing:
  • Open QuickBooks > choose File > Utilities. After that the list will display which shows two options either 'Host Multi-User Access', 'Stop Hosting Multi-User Access'. 
  • If this option 'Host Multi-User Access', displays that means this computer is not hosting the company file. 
  • If this option 'Stop Hosting Multi-User Access', displays then select it after that click 'Yes'.
  • In the Company file must be closed window, click Yes to continue and go to the next computer.


There are more causes behind this error message such as, you may be using a non US Windows OS version or Windows Regional Language Settings set to something other than English or Your firewall or security software are blocking your QuickBooks files many more. But all above points are common causes & in 80% this error gets resolved by using above steps.
