How to Repair Corrupt or Damaged MS Word File

MS word is one of the most used utilities. It is used everywhere in office, school and at home. People use word files to write thesis and important notes. Suppose you spend several hours to write some thesis or important note, next time when you tried to access that doc file, it gives error that document has been corrupted. MS word documents can get corrupted or damaged due to several causes like improper system shutdown, virus attack, operating system corruption and power outage etc. To prevent data loss due to corruption of word file windows provide some helpful tools like “backup copy” and “AutoRecover”. With the use of these option user can recover lost or damaged documents.
In order to use these options you need to change settings of MS word. If your word documents get corrupted and your “backup copy” and “AutoRecover” setting is not enable then windows can't help you to repair damages word file. In this situation you need to find word repair software which is compatible with your computer configuration to repair corrupt .doc files.
Enable Backup Copy Option to create backup of word document:
MS word have an inbuilt tool to prevent data loss due to corruption of document, it automatically create backup of every saved word document. If your original word files get corrupted due to any reason then you can restore that file from backup. Following are some steps to enable this option…
- Go to Start --> All Programs Select MS word.
- Click on Tools --> Options.
- Now Click On Save Tab.
- Select Always Create Backup Copy Check Box.
AutoRecover feature of MS office will constantly saves data of the working files. This feature is very helpful for those users whose system accidentally gets shutdown while working on the word document and user could not get time to save his document. When you launch MS Word next time, word will restore last auto saved data and show list of recovered file in “Document Recovery Window” on the left hand side of document screen. Now select files which you want to save and Double click on that. You can save this recovered file on appropriate location.
These inbuilt features of MS office will be very helpful in most of the cases of corruption but not every time. If you can't repair corrupt word file with these options then you definitely need a third party file repair tool to repair your word document.
